i believe it is a bootsmechanic sleeve designation. looks original to me i have never seen fakes of an item like this but iam sure they exist, it is a pretty common item.

Yes, an original metal sleeve badge, private purchase if the wearer wanted one. Some are rare, some are not. This is one of the more common examples though. Not faked as far as I know. On the other hand, great caution is necessary on the cloth patches not only because of fakes, but since they were worn post war in the Bundesmarine. The metal ones were not. John
