    general KM collecting ?

Hi all. I am fairly new to this game but love it. KM (U-boat) and SS are my thing. Can't always afford SS stuff and am looing for some ideas to expand my meager U-boat collection. What is out there for U-boat items once you have a war badge, combat clasp, soldbuch and a tally ( I don't have all these, just not aware of others). Whatr is a good site for U-boat stuff? Thanks to everyone who takes the time to point me in the right direction. Tom

Hi welcome to the KM forum, there are a great bunch of guys that hang out here , as for collecting KM U-Boat yoy could go the whole way and collect by maker, although you would have to have deep pockets, there are also Caps, waterproofs, Binos, even parts of the U-Boat, cloth insig, etc. AS for KM in genera you have lHSF awards, Minesweepers, Coastal Artillery, Aux cruisers awards, Blockade Breakers, Destroyer awards.stickpins, Eagles, cloth insig, cap tallies, Caps, uniforms. As for where you can find these items there is the E-Stand, Detlev, Weitz, etc. As with all awards in TR though you have to be carefull and get to know the stuff you are collecting as there are some really good fakess out there and it can become a very costly learning curve. Hope this is of some help. all the best

Yes, books first and then... why not documents? Personally I think that collecting badges ONLY is worthless. Everything comes much more alive with documents.

The best book to have about the subject is the beforementioned book Torpedo Loss ( ISBN 932970-02-9-2) by Gordon Williamson. I also recommend U-boote Crews (ISBN 978-2-35250-046-9) by Jean Delize.

                  Good luck with your collection.

I reccommend becoming a premium, paid member on the various forums. The create an image library on your hard drive. Each badge, badge type, maker, fakes, etc., etc. I have hundreds upon hundreds of images of good badges and repro piece stored on my computers HD. It's an invaluable reference gallery and I highly reccommend that a newer badge collector do the same. I've used my gallery numerous times and it's proven invaluable.

The books are also good as well. I'm primarily and edged weapons collector and as such, have only invested in edged weapons literature. The badge gallery i created has worked very well for me......and the guys here are the best!!!

Well not to go into too much detail for that action.

Normally you 'right click' on an image and then select 'save' and you will be prompted to save it somewhere on your computer.

Create a folder for each catigory of badges you want to collect.

                            Mil-
Byter got it. Right click (if using a Windows OS), choose save as, name file, choose where to store it and save it as a .jpg. I've got probably over 500 images stored on my HD. Just keep in mind these images are property of the person who created them. Intellectually property rights apply. My image library is indespensible.

*** I should also add that many of the forums, including WAF have a reproduction section in the premium members section. So utilizing the online image library can mitigate the need to save them to you HD. I save them because over the years, various members decided to remove thier images hence are no longer available for viewing in the online gallery.
