Hi friend. Are these marked w/ boat #'s? I may be mistaken but I am under the impression that these badges were done on a flotilla basis. Interesting pieces but I am afraid I have not seen enough of them to judge. Tom

I think the key to these are the provenance established with the piece. Without that provenance it is a pure crapshoot.

Those things could have been made anytime, anywhere.

Ja...I know, all I know about them is they came from a U Boot collector in Germany, trying to find out more. There is a considerable amount of work in them, but the corrosion on the one is a bit suspicious plus the fact the guy had like 5 different ones.

              Thanks

I do not profess to be any sort of expert on the subject, but I thought that these were badges for individual boats and coincided with the emblems on their towers? Norbert

I have always been fascinated by these and always thought them to be made by one or 2 individuals on each boat. I always wondered how can you determine authenticity from what I also thought were handmade pieces? It has to be tough. Mike.
