    Minesweeper Schwerin

    Hi

An interested buyer wants to have a friend look at my badge before he buys it, I thought it would be better for a general concensus here.

    Thanks in advance
    Dion

Hi Dion nice original . These were the early style minesweepers with the silver backed finish and are somewhat harder to find than the normaly encountered ones . All the best

          Hi,

I don't recall ever seeing a genuine tombak example with a catch plate, so I assume this is a neat catch replacement.

          Regards

I agree with Mike.It should have just a flatwire catch soldered to the reverse and no catchplate.I am wondering if it is a" factory " repair job?

              Regards,Martin.

Or a fluke of some type, there are no solder marks, nothing. it is flat to the badge. Its solid on there, etc. Ive seen a lot of repairs and catch them, but no signs of anything on this one.

Hi Dion this is not the first time I have seen one like this, with a very similar catch and no signs of a repair. have come across a couple at various shows although it has to be said over the years. I too could see no signs of repair that led me to various conclusions, a shortage of stock? mixed catches? or a very professional repair? the latter I would consider unusual. All the best

Hi Dion the old grey matter is nt working as well today . You got me thinking when i said I have seen a few on my travels I thought hold on I actually bought one . When i showed it on the forum many years ago it got the thumbs up. Like I have said this is considered the early style so another possiblity is the playing around with catches? Unfortunately I am not near a scanner but if I get the chance I will post mine which has to be said has evidence of solder which i believe is original to the part. All the best.

The reverse, notice the different style of hinge as well, and the catch which clearly has evidence of solder which has to be said is in keeping with the colour of the reverse and does not appear to be a modern type of solder.

Hopefully a closer clear shot. Like I have said this got the thumbs up many years back. Picked it up from an antique shop.

This pic maybe a little clearer.
