I did peruse that link, it can be a little had for the "novice" to compare, early versus late, etc. I can still return it, the dealer guarantees his items. Can you tell me specifically what tells you it is a poor repro? Thanks!

It appears to have the 2 main die flaws listed in the article, also the lettering is mostly consistant with the maker mark description. A couple of deviances.

Sad to say that pretty much everything is wrong with this badge. The Eagle, wreath, ship ,waves, maker mark, catch, etc, etc.
Original badges are also convex, maybe it's the pctures but your badge looks "flat".
I am glad to hear that the seller will give you you a refund.I am really sorry to give you this news but i would simply return it.I am sure that others will verify my opinions.
            Good luck and regards,Martin.

Badge is convex. I would like to hear from others. Lettering is pretty consistant with that described in the articles.

Sorry mate. I have to agree. Many problems. JUst one is the marker mark. No real similarities between yours and known originals.

                      this is poopoo.

Quite well made Schwerin HSF repro, but the lack of details is a sure tell.

                        Hi sneakerd,

Unfortunately I can not add much to what has already been posted. It is a badge/repro that was made to deceive and fleece collectors of money. The badge looks nice, but it simply does not comform to known originals - there are many subtle problems with it. To compare properly, you need to do so on a point by point basis.

For example, and using only Darrell's good comparison of the maker mark, the comparison shows that, although the maker's mark is spelt correctly, NONE of the letters are actually FORMED correctly. The thickness of almost all the letter's on your example is greater/thicker than used on originals for a start. More specifically, and using only the first example, look at the "F" in Fec. The topstroke of the "F" in your example lies above the topstroke of the "E" and those two letters are almost touching - now compare to the original - very different.

When Martin mentioned "convex" I think he probably meant from the reverse of the badge (so "concave" or "scooped" would probably be better terms). The example in this thread does indeed look relatively flat from the reverse.

Please keep in mind, the aim of my article was never to "Type" variations, it was first and foremost written to highlight the characteristics of genuine examples.

                        Regards
                        Mike
                        Regards
                        Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

For somebody who does not do much for badges it can look very good.
For people who have done a lot with badges it looks very bad, nothing is like a real Schwerin.

I hope you can give it back for a refund.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help. Saves me from regrets later. Dealer is an honest guy, he is a forum advertiser and will accept return.
