Back with pin up.You can't see because of the glare but there is only minute traces of guilding left on this badge.Incidentaly,which do you think is the more desirable badge,Klein & Quenzer or GWL?

U Boat Badge

Hello Frank,
Thanks for the interest.I compared my badge to a Klein and Quenzer badge shown on Gordon Williamsons U-boat site.I believe my badge is by that maker because it has the solid swastika and narrow chest on the eagle characteristic of K&Q.The outline of the deck gun and flag is also identical and finally it has the well made pin assembly and catch found on K&Q badges.I may have missed a glaring inconsistancy (again!) and if so perhaps someone could let me know.Any other thoughts will be welcome and if anyone has a K&Q badge to compare it with itwould be a great help.Cheers again Frank,

Come on Guys,
Has no one got an opinion on this badge,positive or negative.I'm trying to decide which one of my two U-boat badges to sell,this one or my GWL and it would help if I could pin down the maker on this badge,

i have a similar badge here and also believe the maker is Klein & Quenzer. note the unique shape of the boat.

Paul,

Yes, your badge is a Klein & Quenzer. 100% certain of that. As to which is the best to keep, if you had a 65 marked piece I'd say keep the K&Q. In terms of value though, I'd say a marked GWL is probably going to fetch more than an unmarked K&Q.

I'm still looking for a K&Q badge myself. 65 marked pieces are not that easy to find.

The boat shape isn't quite unique. I have a fire-gilded tombak badge which has the exact same profile shape of the boat (which is a bit different to most other makers). Almost identical to the K&Q badge but for the detailing of the eagles chest so not from the same tooling.
The area around the obverse eight o'clock position has a cut away portion between the forward hull and the wreath. Most other makers are solid here. Its more noticeable from the reverse. K&Q badges have this too.

I agree completely. This one and the Zimmermann are my favourites, much nicer than Schwerin.
This one I have also seen in Zinc, exactly the same die characteristics, but sadly no idea who made them. Keep hoping to find a maker marked one some day.
