    Max Purchase - Juncker Ca

I have been looking for a nice condition Juncker Coastal Arty for a year now. I missed a couple on the estand.

Anyway, I was at the MAX and looked, and looked, and looked. I saw one early on Thursday, but it lacked gilting. The last day, about 30 minutes before departing, I acquired 'target lock'. It was worth the wait, and the search.

    Regards,
    Mark

      Mark,

looks like your patience paid off.Great looking badge and hard to find in that condition.
On a lot of these Juncker badges that one sees the finish has worn down to the base metal.
Yours is a fine looking example.

      Regards,Martin.

        Ludwig & Martin,

Thank You! Didn't Juncker make brass ones also?

          Mark,

yours is an early tombak example.Later badges were made from zinc.

          Cheers,Martin.

              Hi Martin,

I'm with you on the early Tombac, but I would swear I have seen brass examples..... how about by Schwerin?

              Scott- Thanks!

                  Mark,

i did a search on google,

Tombak="a brass alloy with a high copper content".
Maybe this is what gives the basemetal its brass color.I am not sure if badges were struck out of brass alone.
Here is the reverse of my Juncker.Unlike yours it appears to have no finish at all revealing the brasslike color of the basemetal.

The obverse has heavy guilding on this badge similar to what you would find on Juncker Auxiliary Cruiser badges.

                    Regards,Martin.
