            Badge is made of zinc.

Most of the Mayer badges seem to be made from tomback. it does appears correct for a Mayer, but Zimmermann badges are also similar in design.

Are Zimmermann's found mostly in zinc or tombak?

How can you tell the difference if it's unkarked?

            Cheers,
            Howard

Hi Howard was quite rushed in my response before. Mayer shared its design with a few companies it is believed Zimmermann and Schinkle being two. Mayer did produced awards in Zinc but they were of a totally different design. Zimmermann also produced in Zinc and kept the design the same. Schinkle had a totally different reverse set up. The differences between Mayer and Zimmermann are in the cut out swaz area Zimmermann having all four areas cut you. When i said Mayer I just meant Mayer style not the maker sorry for the confusion. Yours I see has only three parts of the swaz cut out but this is not unusual to see this in later war examples where quality was not as strictly adhered too. The only thing i had noticed is the whitish look too the Hull which i might wrong have taken as zinc pest or result of flash. Saying that i can see nothing wrong and is more than likely Zimmermann with Mayer type design.

Sorry for the extra simlies daughter wanted them on

Your daughter has good taste in smiles!

                If I understand correctly......

Mayer badges are similar in design to Zimmermann & Shinkle.

Most Mayer badges are in tombak, with very few being found in zinc.

Zimmermann's are found in zinc, and this piece is most likely a Zimmerman.

Shinkle badges are similar, but have a different reverse construction.

                Did I get everything correct?

                Thanks for the help.

                Cheers,
                Howard

Forgot to mention, the white is from the flash.

Here's another photo, not as bright.

Hi Howard we are nearly there

Mayer are identicle to Zimmermann and Schinkle (cut out swaz only difference)

Very few Mayers Tombac (early and most sort after) most found today are Zinc (late war with different design of eagle, F.O style)

                    Spot on with the third

Spot on with fourth Similar being close to identicle.

Im pretty sure some of the guys will chip in with photos. Now where's John?

                    All the best

                      hello
I agree , nor zimmermann neither schickle . The badge looks like the tombak Mayer's , whereas is zinc made . The problem is very interesting .
I am looking for an alike badge in my files
                      All the best
