    The first German U-Boat

I just returned from my trip to Germany. I had time to visit the military museum in Dresden. To my disappointment the museum is undergoing major renovations, so only a small portion of the collection is on display in one of the outbuildings.
I found this restored submarine fascinating. Note the two armholes in the "conning tower" at the front. It was to be used to plant mines on ships. The propeller was powered by two men operating cranks. It appears that on the first trial run the boat went straight to the bottom.

I can't remember (been 25 years since I visited that museum) but if I am not mistaken this was a replica of the original??

I think the write-up claimed that is was raised in Bremen Horbour and then restored. If that is true, I think a great deal of restoration was done to return it to this condition.

No. It was build in Kiel and sunk outside the Kiel harbour in the Kieler Foerde (baltic sea)
