Not sure about this one, better photos are needed but it might have a chance. Looks like the clip has been replaced but a straight on shot of the front is needed along with the pin and hinge.

Straight on shots needed especially of the eagle. May be OK but catch raises a flag, would not spend my money based on these pics alone.

I'm trying to get the owner to send better pictures, what are genuine Schwerin badges going for?

I think the market price for a minty tombac Schwerin marked sub badge is around $1,100 at this time. Unmarked, maybe $650. Without gilding and repaired catch, if real, don't know what this would bring but obviously much less.

Hope these help in determining if geniune or copy.

I think this is a copy....The catch is wrong, eagles head wrong, makers mark looks too big, and I also dont like the pin.

                  Regards,
                  Chris G.

                    U-boat badge

                    Hello,
I agree with Chris. There is something about this badge that I do not like (the odd catch and the eagle's head for a couple of things ). I would not want this in my collection.

                    Regards,
                    Jody

The catch could be replaced explaining why it is odd, but that might have been done on purpose.

This badge has become very dangerous, maybe the most dangerous of them all since I think the Schwerin Berlin marked U-boat badge in tombak is the #1 badge collected in regards to the KM. Therefore, it is worth it to the fakers to do it right.

Anyway, do your homework, study the examples here, and be careful.

Rob, are you going to weigh in on this one? Another possibility is that the hinge pin was removed to replace the main pin, maybe at the same time the catch was replaced. The obverse details could be OK or a very good cast from an original.

                      John

Chris, I agree on the pin. The maker's mark is not too bad, remember, two types of marks for this badge. John

                          Hey John,

Your right I just noticed that there are 2 types of marks from my files but it still doesnt look right to me...maybe I am looking too closely? I am new at the sub badges so I am probably wrong so I do appreciate the help.

                          Regards,
                          Chris G.

Chris, it is just getting harder and harder, BUT, they will never IMO get it exactly right. Or if they do for argument sake, it will not feel right in hand. The problem is internet images, you do not have it in hand. For now, we are still safe on all the KM badges.

These images are tricky, that is why it is hard to determine maker mark sizes, etc. Slight tips of the badge makes an eagle look good or bad or covers up a bad one that is close.

However, this is now a straight on shot, lets see what the others have to say.

A replaced catch I could see but that is not a Schwerin Eagle.
