Fire Guiding

Hi guys thought i would throw this out to you for any comments. Not long ago I was talking to a dealer who is noted for selling good quality fakes. He told me that some of the fakes he gets without finish (or poor finish) he sends over to India where they get fire guilded as the locals do not know the harming effects that it has on there bodies. Have to say when ever I look he always has good quality fake Fire guilded U-Boat awards so I have no reason to doubt him. Anyone else heard of this . All comments welcome

I know the original, and assuming present day guilding, involves releasing mercury into the air which is illegal today not to mention harmful to humans. I expect that "looser" pollution laws permit this in India, but I haven't heard of shady dealers doing this. I did see a repop U Boat at the SOS that had nice guilding so maybe it was sent to India???
