    KM Grouping Named

Several years ago I was given by my mother-in-law (living in Germany) a minty Destroyer badge, Narvik Shield and two photos. The badge and shield belonged to the man in the photo's KM Obergefreiter Arno MEHRING was born 25 Aug 1917 and died 10 Apr 1940. I would like to find out which destroyer he was on. Can someone help?

    I'll post pics soon

    Thanks Pat

Ok just noticed I can not post pics. Anyway I have two photo's of the owner plus
The Destroyer badge appears to be almost mint with all gold paint remaining, it is maker marked Schwerin Berlin 68. The latch and little hook are perfect.

The Narvik shield is missing the cloth backing and one pin on the back. Could not see any maker marks.

I'm thinking of selling off the grouping and as a group but I have no idea where to start.

    thanks
    pat

Enlisted crew lists are almost impossible to find except at the appropriate German archives--in other words, you need to go there. That said, and if the date of death is correct, he was killed in Anton Schmitt or Wilhelm Heidkamp. Wish I could guess the name on the tally, but might have been another destroyer anyway. John

OK, I have enhanced the cap in the one photo. I believe he has the name of the ship covered up since it should have said Kriegsmarine but most destroyer sailors still had the named tally. I can just see an "A", I think, sticking out to the far right, which means he was on Anton Schmitt.

                              John,

Thank's for posting the pics for me. I have friend that might be sending a letter to the Marinebund hopefully he will here something back. I've tried and tried but I can not read the tally, it appears that it might be three words to me.
