    HSF...Opinions

Can I get your opinions on the High Sea Fleet by Schwerin? I see several thing I have questions about. I only have these two pictures. Fire away!

      hi Dennis,

Although the pictures are not the best I would say judging by the obverse alone that the badge is not an original, Just my opinion.

      Cheers,

Hi Dennis in my opinion not an original. Wrong style of mm, and there are a few differences to the front. Good attempt thou.

            Dennis,

I picked up on the same things, also I thought the fore part above the anchor was wrong aswell. Could easily fool some poor other unfortunate who will fork out a stack of cash for it.

            Cheers,

              Dennis,
The reverse of the badge looks very"flat" from the photo's,should be more convex. Also, the reverse set-up looks wrong. It has a block hinge for a tombak badge and a catch with a circular base-plate for a zinc badge.
Have you looked at Mike's study on the badges at the top of this page?

              Regards,
              Martin.

Martin, Yes I have been looking at it a lot! Hard to tell from the pictures of the back very much. I really think there is just to much wrong with this one. I have not see a fake like this one, so that is why I asked. I just want to be sure as we all want to be.

                Thanks,
                Dennis

                  Hi Dennis,

The best advice I can recommend is to look at Mike Kenny's article (in the Association section) on this badge with all the varients he noted. You'll see what your badge is lacking.

                  IMO,
                  Tim

                    Hi Dennis,

For what it's worth late in the thread, imo this is a certain reproduction. Way too many things wrong with it. Main pin, catchplate, finish all stick out, in addition to missing the two main "die flaws" and many other genuine Schwerin HSF characteristics.

                    Regards
                    Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Thank you everyone who took a look at this badge. I will add it to the fake site here. Very nice study you wrote Mike. I'm glad I got to take a good hard look at it.
