    L/16 Minesweeper Badge

    Guys,

An unmarked badge that is attributed to the maker L/16. There are a couple of examples on the forum, the marked one has a rounded wire catch. The unmarked one does not have the round wire catch. very nice obverse, I love the water spout on this badge, it's very bold and stands out. The reverse looks a bit grubby and I'm sure a clean up would reveal a far niceer badge, but not too sure whether to go down that road.

    Regards,

    Mark

The reverse, a bit dirty. No markers mark.

A close up of the pin and hinge.

If you have an L/16 Minesweeper (marked or unmarked) post them for a good set of comparison shots.

      Cheers,

      Mark

What remains of the finish in contrast with the brass metal in combination wit my scanner does tend to give the badge a yellow tinge on te obverse.

Then you've this zinc one !! In some quarters this is consider a fake in the fact that the hinge, pin and catch and ultimately the finish are a post war application on a genuine zinc period badge ???

Like I say, in some realms of though - which also I imagine then includes the E Boat and I guess it would have to include the PAB and IAB to follow that train of thought.

Note the S&L dot to the left of the hinge, I'v found this on numerous S&L badges in the past firstly on a KVK marked 4.

I think it's accpeted now that this is a maker symbol/mark associated with S&L - it is a trait I associate with them and consider in my terms as a 'maker mark' of sorts.

                          Nice badges guys

Marcus, the comment you made about your style of hinge and catch being thought of as fake by some, is that a recent discussion.

I can't recall hearing this lately.

                          regards
                          Graeme

                            Hi G,

No it's not a 'recent' thing as such, it's been an ideal come theory/notion with some for a time now; one of those things that rears its head if someone mentions it like me really.

I think for the most part they are taken for granted as ok (?)

I'll elaborate in a pm mate.

                              Marcus,

Thanks for sharing your badge and knowledge with us. Like Graeme I would also be interested to more about what you know regarding the different hardware to the L/16 badges. Grateful if you could share on a pm or post. As a keen KM badge collector I would like to hear as much as possible.

                              Cheers,
