    The mystery U Boat Badge w/Diamonds

    Ladies & gentlemen I have a bit of a mystery that I need some help solving and maybe together we can take a stab. Can anyone verify if KorvettenKapitan Peter-Erich Cremer of U-333, U-152, & U-2519 ever received the Gold U Boat Badge with Diamonds (U Boots-Kriegsabzeichen mit Brillanten)? From my reading there were 30 badges given during the war. The first was to Admiral Donitz and the other 29 were given to Korvettenkapitan's who supposebly received the KC with oakleaves! Come to find out there may have been one more given to Cremer in the very last days of the war (May, 1945). I would like some help finding out what ideas that all of my peers may know about this mystery.

    Regards,

    David Caldwell

    Cremer Badge

    P.S. As far as I know Peter-Erich Cremer never received the Oakleaves for his Knights Cross.

      What evidence do you have that shows that Cremer received the U-Boat Badge with Diamonds? He isn't listed as an Oak Leaves winner either.

        Hello David,

        This should be what your after; Peter-Erich Cremer never recieved the U-Boat clasp with brilliants or the oakleaves to the Knights Cross.

        This is all i could come up with at this time for a partial list of the 29 recipients:

        15 Jul 1941 Kptlt. Herbert Schultze U-48

        But here is a great U-Boat site if you don not already have it book marked;

          Cremer U-Boat Badge w/Diamonds

          I do not have any proof that this badge is original but it comes dirrectly from the Peter-Erich Cremer Estate in Germany and is being sold by one of the most reputable dealers! I realize that in everything I have read that the U Boat Badge with Diamonds was "USUALLY" given to KC with Oakleaves holders. But I have seen that word usually come up a number of times. I have talked to other people who follow the U Boat history and they have said that in May of 45, when Cremer was supposibly given this badge, he was in command of the Guards-Battalion who was in charge of protecting the Grossadmiral. Yes the same commander who was in charge of the trigger-happy sentry who shot and killed Korvettenkapitan Luth! Possibly at that time he may have been given the badge. I just think it is interesting that we may have an unsolved piece of history. Could change a number of books and websites if it were true and if it is not true then we atleast get to have some interesting debate! I am going to contact the seller directly to see if I can get clarification from the family but I wanted to have any thoughts from my peers on maybe what to ask.

          Regards,

          David Caldwell

            INTERESTING STORY

            The story you have been told should be thoroughly researched. If in fact it can be verified it will indeed change the record books on the number of recipients of this very scarce award. Many things happened in the last day of the war that have pass unnoticed into history. If in fact this officer was bestowed the U-Boat Badge with Diamonds his award has thus far been lost to history. I would also check out the dealer you say is "reputable" and I would request and require a direct link from the family to the dealer.
