I agree, looks like a good badge but spoiled by the addition of what looks like gold model paint. You can see traces of the original finish on the reverse around the catch and hinge.
If you remove the gold paint you will see all of the detail of the badge which has been covered up.Regards, Rob

If you do decide to take the paint off I would try acetone first, if this does not work then use something a bit stronger like stripper. but make sure you wash the badge thoroughly after. I would also then be tempted to apply a thin coat of vaseline or rennaisance wax.
I had an unmarked F&B u-boat badge which looked almost exactly the same as yours (worn, lack of detail) which I was going to sell until I took the paint off and all the detail was revealed, needless to say I kept the badge.Attached FilesRegards, Rob
