A close up of the catch. Oops forgot to down load the pic. Dumb or what.

              L18

Your L/18 minesweeper looks good to me. I've seen the maker mark on the pin and below the catch and in the center of the plume. Most finishes on these (did see one really nice piece on this site) are not ideal, but since these are very scarce, one in any condition is agreeable. Only the catch looks off. Obviously it's been deformed but it does not look like the one on my badge. Other photos I have make it difficult to determine if they have such catches. But the base plate on the catch and hinge are easily recognized in other photos of this maker.

Looks like a good one to me...and quite rare!
The catch is identical, but slightly more "hooked", to my L/18 E-Boat badge so I think it is OK!

                  Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback so far (and to mrg for populating the landscape!). After having had this badge under the microscope, I don't suspect a replacement catch. Still, it's great to hear other perspectives. Lorenzo, can we get a look at the catch on your E-Boat badge??

                    more L/18

Just came across some more 'L/18' postings here on WA. In one, a picture of an L/18 from Weber's book is shown and it looks to have the same type of catch as yours.

In posting #26 in the following link, you'll find pictures of mine and details of the catch.

Hi Guys now that there have been a couple of replies i hope it is ok for me to chip in. When Mark sent me these pics i had no doubt that the award is an original. One pic showed up the mm very well but it was too large to download the other pic was not very clear, but it was a very close match to my U-boat award. One thing that bothered me also was the catch, which i initially thought maybea replacent but having looked closely at the award there is no evidence that this is the case and so believe this to be original to the award thou alittle bit bent. A nice scarce award in my opinion.

Thanks for all the comments, guys. The pin arrangement sure did seem unusual, so it was great to have opinions noted here.
