Yes, your doubts are legitimate. It is a bad casting of a RS badge. The hinge makes it very obvious.

I see that pin/hinge and catch have been replaced very crudely. However, the badge itself seems to have pretty sharp definition on the front. The back seems nice and smooth and I don't see any pitting from casting. The pics seem to show glare. Is it possible to get a clearer shot of the front, back, sides and a close up of the maker mark. Just for my on edification

Hate to be the bearer of bad newsmy opinion fake.
1. pin not period with hinge.
2. rear too rough looks like a casting not smooth like originals.
3. catch has a lot of what appears to be rough solder around it, I really can"t tell from the pic,

I think this was the most convincing arguement that its a cast badge. The mm is also very weak and looks like a casting.

Now the casting marks are quite visible. My eyes must be getting weak. Sorry about your badge. But use the knowledge you gain here, and get good/great items in the future. Don't feel too bad, we all have been stung before.
