    U Boat Badge in Diamonds

I am looking at purchasin a U Boat Badge with Diamonds. Does anyone on the forum have one of these and can help me look for authenticity. I will get pictures to post but I thought I would do a little leg work. The U Boat Captain's name is correct and from my sources in Germany, many of his items are in the United States!

    Hi David......

......here's a link that you should definitely read. A badge of the type you wish to purchase is extremely rare. You are doing the correct thing by researching first before buying.
This link is available (and others like it) by using the search button at the top right of this page. Type in diamonds.

      Ouch

I do hope your budget is quite high as this type of badge is probably priced into the stratosphere.

From what I have read, there was just one of these badges officialy awarded, to Donitz. With one or two period jeweler's copies made for his work clothes (uniforms).

Actually, NONE of the diamonds awards were officially awarded. All came with a simple letter on headed paper from the CinC Navy, bestowing the award. All were private gifts from the CinC Navy and not formal official awards.

This is one of the most faked of the high end awards.Originals to be honest are not all that impressive and consist of a basic badge with a diamond set swastika attached over the original swastika of the badge. Most of the fakes around are of better standard than the originals.
Rare yes, valuable, yes, but never a tribute to the jeweler's craft.

I seem to remember Detlev, who has probably handled more originals than most, commenting to me along the lines that most people wouldn't want one in their collection if it wasn't for the rarity and the judgement was just on quality.

Anyone thinking of buying one of these today needs to be very brave indeed, the market is awash with high grade fakes!!!!!

In an interview I had with the Late Grand Admiral, retired, he said he only had one special badge and never mentioned copies. It was a special badge bestowed to him by then commander of the Kreigsmarine Grand Admiral Raeder.

Below is an original issued U-Boat Badge with Diamonds.

              David,
I can only agree with what has been said. There are a lot of very well done and pretty fakes out there. In the last 12 months I have seen or been approached by at least 5 individuals with the "genuine" thing, complete with papers in some cases. The fakers have the same information sources that we do and can make up some nicely aged documents and even "letters" from the now deceased awardees to attest to authenticity. When you pin them down to life time guarantees in writing and notarized they seem to quietly ( or sometimes rudely) disappear. Be very, very careful in your quest for this piece. I hope you do have a line on a good one at a good price. Happy hunting.

Is the badge you are looking at documented to the recipient? is it possible to see scans of the badge?

                        U boat badge with diamonds

In my travels looking for a badge in diamonds I have come across three for sale that I can possibly beleive to be real! There are two in California and one in Germany. One of the two in California belonged to Emmeremann the other he will not say until I come to look which should be in the next two weeks. The one in Germany belonged to the other thread we have been talking about (Cremer)! The person in California won't give me pictures due to he doesn't beleive in the internet and says he will give them to me when I come out in person. The one in Germany I am currently working on.

                        Regards,

                        David

                          Dear David,
I personaly saw the two U-Boot bages from California.
The are original ones and certainly worth to buy.
                          Succes Pieter.

                            Pieter,

Hey can you send me a note in regards to the dealer in California. I would like to have some information before I go out to visit! They seem to be very well respected from what information I have seen. If you would I would appreciate a note direct to my e-mail if you would not mind - mack888@juno.com.

Thanks again for the info pieter.
