    badge

    Hey Nordmark,

Do i am new to this forum of KM badges,i am interested in KM for over 20 years now.Genuine WWII items are scarce and for mint items as above non excisting.
When a badge whas issued to KM personel they where obligated to ware it so it whould in the least get a scratch somehow. When i see the real badges of veterans if they still have them i have never seen a mint badge. One of my badges (war wound) came of a veteran along whit the papers and is in nearly mint condition because he had 2 of them and never used the second one,but it is still not mint.Whatever you use and that 60 years ago will show traces of use.I am been following some badges and discussions on this forum and it seems to me members tend to proclaim eachothers badges for real fairly quick.
Maybe for ease of mind and the wallet?
For some reason(profit) the badges have and still are being reproduced in big amounts.I do not proclaim to be a specialist, far from but i have seen to much from the KM to play allong and proclaim this a real badge.Still i am very sorry for the owner but i think (i hope)you wanted a honest answer.
    Sorry for my englisch.

    greetings
    Vince

Hi Vince, you seem to have a tremendous amount of knowledge! Why don't you explain to the rest of us idiots what makes this badge fake, besides its excellent condition. best wishes,

The "mint" condition of the badge should not scare anybody into thinking the badge is fake. Nor should a so-called "worn condition" badge lead you to believe it is real. There are a plethora of reasons as stated earlier why an authentic war-time issued badge can still be in "mint" condition.

Especially in the case of the Blockade Runner badge (as your 20 years of KM experience should tell you)...many of the recipients were Merchant Marines who did not wear the large badge, but rather wore the "mini" on their civilian clothes lapels. Hence their large badge would stay in "mint" condition.

Vince...if the badge is fake, please give us reasons other than the fact that it is "mint". Also, if you have some evidence that Schwerin is/was still producing these badges after the war, please share your research with us. Otherwise, your claim is just an unfounded assertion that translates into "rumor".

                Rick,

Imo you have an excellent original badge - you have no need for any concerns (except from envious forum members ). I have not seen a Schwerin THAT good for a long time (if ever) - it's not like mint badges like this grow on trees.

Vince, condition does NOT determine authenticity. There are many ways a badge could stay mint - the most obvious already outlined above with the full-sized KM Blockade Breaker badge not being authorised for wear my Handelsmarine. You are also making the assumption that this example was actually awarded in the first place. Many mint unissued (stockpiled) items were picked up by US veterans and taken home.

Sorry, I have to ask along with the others, why is this badge fake. How does it differ from German veteran acquired examples (condition being irrelevant).

                Regards
                Mike
                Regards
                Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Nothing wrong with that badge, a very nice example.

Condition should not be used as a means of determining originality, in fact I would say that it is the fake badges which are normally found in worn condition as these tend to have been "aged" and often de nazified in order to give them some feel of originality.

                    Sorry Vince,

I don´t share your opinion about km badges. In fact, I have a mint badge, that is original.

Do you know why I know it is original? Because my grandfather got this badge in 1940. It is mint because as stated above, it was just worn on the KM "Ausgehuniform" and shows no sign of any wear.

                    Regards,

                    Daniel

                        Hi Darrell,
I am crushed, I worked so hard for 30+ years to collect mint KM badges and now I find out they are all crap. Darrell I will be sending them to you along with a hammer so you can smash them upon arrival (I just don't have the heart to do it myself).

                        Vince,
The Blockade breaker badge is good. Please share with us why it is bad. Now this Destroyers badge (along with the majority of my KM badges) was veteran obtained in the early 70's. Vince will you please tell me what is wrong with it. I sure hope I don't have to send this piece off to Darrell as well.

                        Regards,
                        Jody
