I picked up this R.S. marked zinker E-boat badge today at a local show. I has it's admirable qualities, but perplexes me with others. KM is not well travelled area on my wide road of collecting, and I have never even handled an E-boat badge until today.
I would appreciate your comments, and can post other angles of view if needed.
              All the best,
              frank

I'd say about 98% of all RS zinc badges have crooked hinges and sloppy solder. Every one of mine are that way.

Definitely a real badge, but I'm not liking the finish on this one. I don't like the coloring of the e-boat and water area. Has the look of being recently painted. Are those gold areas I see showing through on the wear spots of the water and e-boat? In my opinion the water and e-boat should not have been gilted or gold washed. I could be wrong, but the finish on this one just does not look right to me.
                      Best regards! Tom

As Tom Says There Is Not Supposed To Be A Gold Finish Below The W-boat. Everyone I Have Seen From This Mfg. Had What Appeared To Be Oxidized Grey Finish. I'am Thinkng Refinished And Showing. Gold Plating On This Badge Appears Exceptional For This Maker. But It's Still An Original Badge.

                          Thanks for your comments.
I just looked at the painted areas with a 22X loupe and there is gold showing under the painted surface. So it is an original badge but a re-finish. That explains the discounted price I paid.
I still may keep this a while though.
