what I could say about is that after taking a close look at it it seams the base of it was made from zink.

thanks michel. just to espand this tread a little bit which is of interest to me . i got this from a ex royal navy salior who saved a u-boat crew and was given this foe saving one of the crew. all i have to date is that it was not uncommon for u-boat crews to make lucky charms. this one is on the navy guys bosums whistle chain. its made out of tourtashell .. any comments michel greatly recieved

                  Hi Chris,

The symbolism in this good luck charm seems to be very "ungerman."

Germany has a limited number of good luck symbols (horseshoe, anchor and four leaf clover). I can find the horseshoe in there twice, but the rest, especially the cat, seems to be foreign to me.
                  Cheers, Frank

Would I be wrong in assuming that a citizen of the reich, after being subjected to visual images of the right-angled swasticka everywhere he looked, would then make this charm with a left-angled swasticka?

Perhaps that is a good luck sign I don't know about.....granted, I'm uneducated in this area, but unless done deliberately to symbolize "good luck" or something else, that seems like a very juvenile mistake to make to me. Just my opinion, feel free to correct me if you know more.

                      Anyway Michel.......I got your point.
                      But please
could you say a bit more about why do you think it's a fake.
I don't rally know much about these badges and would love to learn a little.

You forgot the Gluckschwein But I agree, the token looks ungerman, despite the story.

You are right, Ray, but the Gl******252;cksschwein is more of a Sylvester/New Years Eve thing.

Could be made for veteran´s associations (the bull). But I don´t think it´s wartime produced.
