    Unmarked Blockade Runner

Hi everyone,i,ve just obtained this unmarked BR badge and iwondered if any one knew who the maker might be.Also, after looking at BR pic,s on the forum idid not see one like this where the tip of the eagles wing does not touch the "chain".Your input would be most helpful, thanks Martin.

Don't particularly like this one myself, lacks detail and the eagles beak looks funny but lets hear what the others say

Weird because not really registered in our minds and databases as an example from a known maker, but I think it deserves more and deeper examination before we completely dismiss it. The lack of details is caused by the very bad pics, I tend to think. There are things about it I like, it could be by a maker we are not really familiar with.
              Cheers, Frank

                  Hello,
I agree with Frank. I would not be so quick to dismiss this one as a fake just yet. There are things that I like about it as well. The hinge , pin and catch setup are quite believable, and I like the dished reverse. Yes, the eagle's head and beak look a little funny, and certainly the portholes along the hull look quite weak and lacking in detail. The rest of the detail seems to be there. Maybe just bad pictures as mentioned. I would be interested in seeing better pictures of this badge if possible. Also the weight and a few measurements would be useful. What is the base metal of this badge?
                  Best regards! Tom

Tom,thanks for your input.Ihope to be able to post some better pic,s in a couple of days when i get access to a "good" camera. The badge from top to bottom measures 48mm,the hinge about 7.5 mm.the width of the pin 3.75mm,the thickness of the pin 1.5mm.The badge does appear to be a little thicker and heavier than an early Schwerin badge i have. The base metal seems to be bronze. The portholes, although lacking in detail are there,6 on the bottom row then 7,etc.Again,thank you all, regards,Martin.

That would not be very good. Are you sure? Possibly Tombak coated zinc maybe? The hinge says "zinc."
                      Cheers, Frank

PSorry guys, ishould have said that the base metal has more of a "copper"tone than that of brass. As poor as the pic,s are it is slightly visible along the edge of the wing and the head. The hinge and pin are almost identical to the hinge and pin assembly on a Scwerin S-Boat 2 that i have exept that it is not magnetic like the S-Boat pin.The catch is the same also but does not have the circular base plate found on zinc badges. Thanks again,Martin.
PS.Just looked at an EK1 ihave in my collection. The core of the badge has the same "copper" tone as the BR badge.

That's one of the things I think that may me uneasy about this badge. The back has the "dish" that some Schwerin BRs had, but the front is not Schwerin.

Did any other known makers have a dish back on this pin?
