Can't say anything about the Aux. Cruiser but the destroyer is a fake IMO.

I just had a closer look at this web site and if you look closely, the Aux. badge IS THE same badge. (Dark spots,scratches, solder, everything!) but it now had a '20' makers mark on the pin !
The badge I have just scanned and have in my hand are in a little shop in Wales. UK. The web site is in the USA ????
The catches and hinges on both the badges I have in hand are IDENTICAL except for the pin length.Comment

Recommend you go to the association area and study the article by Rob Hudspith on the Schwerin naval badges. You will quickly see the problem with the destroyer badge and there are many.
If you can't find it, PM me.
In the case of the aux cruiser, do a thread search for them here and I doubt if you will find one that looks like this. Stick to the known examples.

In addition, I am not aware of a 20 maker mark for any kriegsmarine badge. Does anyone else know of one? johnComment

If you study the cruiser badge on this site you will see that is the same badge as I have posted at the top but it now has a '20' maker stamp.

The destroyer badge is also identical in all details except that it is not the same badge I have posted but presumably another from the same batch of fakes.
Someone has obviously bought the badge into the UK, stamped it and passed it through the trade.Comment

Do not be fooled by the ease of the identification of these badges. Others are much more difficult to classify. Until you feel completely comfortable, and it may take you many hours of study on this forum's past threads, you need to do what you did, post first.
The KM badges are truly beautiful, they are worth collecting for many reasons, but there is no reason in this area to be stung by a bad purchase. Just post here with your opinion first, it would be nice if all the "is it real" posts started as yours did with the statement that you had already done some of the research yourself.
Education and research is 90% of this game, 10% having the badge in hand, at least for me. It can't be 90% having, 10% research since this will get you in serious trouble sooner or later.
As I said above, a good start, maybe the best start, is to study Mike and Rob's research papers first. Schwerin is the first stop, once you have that under control, then the other makers can fall into line.
It is a lot of information to absorb, you need a good computer and it helps to have a decent image program to do side by side comparisons, but this will make the hobby more than just buying badges and take it to levels of enjoyment besides just forking over your hard earned cash. Best of all, it is free.
There are lots of folks here on this KM badge forum that will help, but try as best as possible, as you did, to make your own call first. If you make a mistake, and we all do, so what, no harm, and you have lost no money. So far anyway, you have saved the cost of the forum a few times over just on these two badges. They will sell someday for sure, but I doubt if it will be to someone that belongs to the KM forum here.
