      All three docs. were a group I purchased, I bought the medals separately. Charlie

        Charlie,

        This sailor was a carpenter's mate. My guess is that he was instrumental in repairing the ship after it was hit in late 1940 by a torpedo from HMS Clyde. For this, he awarded the EK.

        There is nothing else that he could have done I think in this time period to be considered for this award since the ship was out of action due to this damage until Jan 41.

        A carpenter's mate is usually assigned to a damage control team.

            I have a question.....Do all the original's have the lazy "A" on the makers name & are there any fakes with the the lazy "A" ?

                Short answer is maybe, depends on the casting process for the fake. Depends on whether the faker knows about it. Each badge has to be evaluated based on a number of variables, not one. To me, the most important is the die flaws, then the maker's mark. Pins, hinges, then hooks. Total package has to be evaluated since the reproduction badges are constantly mutating like an evil bug. John
