U-Boat Badge fake or not??

I received this U-Boat Kriegsabzeichen with some other stuff and have doubts about it being original. The main problem area as I see it is the pin on the back, the catch is very wide and the hinge looks good but has closed ends. The mark is for the French model but the hinge and clasp don't match. So I am open as to its originality.

I couldn't get a good clear shot of the overall badge (no tripod) but did manage to get good clear shots of the major items.

The surface details on the back make me wonder about that as well!

Also, didnt most of the badges with the "shield chest" on the eagle come from the early part of the war, and were made of brass or tombak? This one has a silver gray look to it where the finish has warn off of it, making me think it's zink or even warmetal. Please, someone correct me if I am wrong!

The makers mark suggests it's a E. Ferd Weidmann, badge... and I am unfamiler with those. Dont think I have ever seen one, actually... but that shouldnt suprise anyone since I have only been collecting for a short time!

The poor FO badge has been worked on by the fakers for so long they are almost not worth the effort anymore. However, this is a bad copy I think, you can see the cast line on your side view, at least it looks like a cast line. The overall quality is pretty bad, hinge and hook problems like you noted.
