Hi Howard, I will say the clasp looks original. The u-boat badge all I can say is I do not think it was made by Schwerin, the eagle and pin are a little different. Other than that I cannot comment on its originality, perhaps some other members can be of more assistance.
      best wishes,
      jeff

Have to agree with Jeff, from the photos the clasp looks OK but the badge definately not a schwerin and I would go one step further and say I don't think it is original either in that it reminds me of the "cyclops" copy schwerin that Manions used to sell some time ago.

Do a search on Cyclops in the KM badge forum to compare

Thanks for the info. I did the search on the "Cyclops" U-boat badges. Looks to me that there are several different variants of the "Cyclops" badge.......how is that explained? Different dies? Has me perplexed??????

I have attached a series of a known good ones to yours, and will let you decide. Maybe this is enough to say it is SB, or not. Maybe it is just in the finishing.

Maybe others can make a call based on these new images.

I will say I do not like the rudder or screw very much in your example. I have checked several other SB U-boat badges and they all look like the example I provided even when finishing details are slightly different.

So I do not think it is a SB at least. John

                        Hello John,

Thanks for the information. And sharing your photos. I bought this badge from Bill Shea, at the last MAX show I attended in 2001. Cost me some big bucks, $550.00. But knowing Shea's reputation, I thought it was worth the money.

                        Guess I was wrong?

                        Regards,
                        Howard

                          Howard,

Well, I would ask him what it is and share that with us. If you have a concern based on this thread, then you need to discuss it with him. I would. I doubt if one badge is a major problem with him especially if he stands behind it as original. I have returned badges after I had them in hand to german dealers, two different well known dealers, and while they insisted they were good, I had a small nagging doubt and they took them back on a trade. One of the badges I had for 2 years. Both badges sold later so perhaps I was wrong, I just had doubt, not certainty. This was pre-forum so I did not have the knowledge or advantage of this at the time but again, I did not make a big deal of it with the dealers, I just asked what the options were.

So I think it is up to you to discuss this with him in a non-confrontational manner and see if you can resolve this issue. Dealers make mistakes and so do we so you need to find out how he feels about it I think.

                          John
