Is that a Juncker? I thought this was the setup for a Juncker. Maybe we need to talk about both badges now in this thread. John

Same badge, different hinge. Nothing radical here.

              Hi Marc,

Gunmount looks different too. Are we sure this is the same maker? John

                badge

Could be same, eagle very similar, but in my example, swaz cut out, gun cutout, different reverse, so maybe same maker, just different dies from the same maker?

So we do not have to go back and forth, the other badge attached.

Great stuff! I love these badges. But I think mine just has more hand-finishing.

                      Juncker

                      Marc,

IMO, both badges are beautiful, to me, they are in the top three and if you have one (I do not) then it is a super addition to your collection.

The point I am trying to make is that both badges have been called Juncker, here and in other forums. I am not sure anyone has really said that either are for sure Juncker since they are not marked. I believe that one or both have been attributed to Juncker, but not sure what the reasons are except we all like to know who made an umarked badge.

If we are saying they are Juncker, then what are the charateristics that make us believe this, the eagle, pin, hook, exactly what?

For example, I think we could perhaps make a case that your badge has a Juncker hook, and if so, the badge is Juncker. Then, the first badge I posted, since it has the same eagle, is also Juncker, either before or after your badge. I would think after, the more durable hooks replaced the weaker hook. But, I am just trying to start the discussion with a possible lineage of these two badges.

I think both badges stand on their own merits and do not need to be Juncker or anything else, although, it would be nice to know. But, how do we know since I do not think there is a definitive reference for either of these two badges.

                      John

Well, I wish we still had Gordon Williamson here. But here is a long thread with info on Juncker U-boat badges. I think the best we can say is "believed by many" to be Juncker. That belief is mostly on the badge quality and the reverse set-up.

Yes, his image matched the one I posted, with the solid gun mount, not the cutout gun mount.

I think you are making a bigger deal over hand finishing than it merits. I think it is the same exact obverse.
