SOS Minesweeper Pickups

Hello:

The SOS was once again a great time this year. I managed to pick up two tombak minesweepers, an RK and an RSS.

I would appreciate your opinions on them. First up the R. Karneth.

Like to hear some other opinions on your RSS MS. I want to say it is OK, but, the diagonal lines on the reverse, the hook, I am not positive. So I do not want to make a call on it either way. Can you give us a good shot of the edge straight on? Are you sure there is no casting line on it? Maybe it is the photo.

The RSS logo looks good, but maybe this is a very good cast.

Here is the best I can do with a scanner to provide further detail. The pin does not open all the way to 180 degrees, and I don't have access to a digital camera.

Hi Dennis, RK looks like a good one. As for the R.S.S I am not that keen going of those pics,mm does not look right nor does the look of the finish, better pics are really needed, but from those i would tend to say not an original. Can you describe the look of the finish? All the best.

The RSS minesweeper actually has very little original finish left and is heavily worn. What you are seeing on this badge is a significant amount of the obverse finish worn down to the brass/tombak layer below.

In hand, the highly detailed nature of the waterspout, the setup, the eagle's head, and the makers mark are all consistent with my RSS minesweeper photo files. The pin doesn't open all the way, so the manner in which I was able to capture the maker mark on a flat bed scanner leaves a lot to be desired.

If others express concerns about the badge, I will attempt to borrow a digital camera and get some improved pictures to help this discussion along.
