    High Seas Fleet-comments please

Hi I am posting some images of a High Seas Fleet MM (FO) that I picked up when I started collecting at school in the 70's. I have always assumed it to be a fake as the other 3 badges I bought from the dealer could all be bent in my fingers.

The reason I post this one now is really to ask two questions about ID fake badges but also at the same time to confirm this is a fake-looks cast to me.
    My questions are
    1. Can any original badge be bent. This one looks like it will bend but I have to apply alot of pressure and can just about feel it give. The other 3 badges bent easily.
    2. I tried removing the gold paint with acetone based varnish remover really as a control and to my suprise the paint does not come off. I have read that using acetone is a good test fro post war fakes. The remover does contain acetone-I checked. So is this really a good test.

    Now images of the badge.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Mike

Looks like a casting from an original.
You can see that it the original had a wrap around hinge but the casting has turned it into just a blob. Still interesting though.

Does this look like a cast line to others? Looks like one to me. John

                  IMO not original.
