    L58 Marked Aux Cruiser

    Gentlemen:

Is it generally accepted that L58 marked aux cruiser badges are "RS" badges but with a different marking for some reason....or am I way off base?

    Thanks!

    Joe

"L58" is RS's (Rudolf Souval's) LdO designation. Here's an example marked "RS."

This one is marked "L58." (Some people believe these to be postwar strikings.)

Hinge comparison ("RS" on left, "L58" on right).

              Thanks George!

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!

So if I am following correctly...L58 is, in fact, Souval but there is still some contention that the L58 badges may be post-war strikes?

              Thanks again,

              Joe

In my opinion the hinge on the L/58 in combination with that marking indicates postwar, John

                      John & Ludwig:

Why does the hinge as pictured with a marking of L58 lead you to believe it is postwar? Nothing different in the hinge jumps out at me.

I am just trying to gather bits of information which I can consolidate and use as kinda "fact sheets" to help me when I look at badges.

                      Thanks!

HI Joe..the metal the hinge is made from is too thin for my taste and the edges of the hinge are too sharp...definately not something you want to see on orginal pieces....but often something you see at reproduction pieces.

                        Warmest Regards,

                        John

Souval used the same hinge on most of his 1970s badges and stamped a very small L58 on them

Here's the mark on mine. It's very small.

Thanks for the explaination and additional info. That was a big help and certainly something to keep for future reference.

                              George--thanks for the follow-up picture.
