    Question about Personalized HSF Badge

    Hello All,
I just picked up a nice HSF badge from a fellow association member. When the badge arrived I noticed it was personalized on the back which I did not notice, nor did he I guess. The name "Kaiser" is scrathed into the badge along with the number "N7735." Not professionally done, on the back right side along the wreath. I assume the name is his last name but what about the number? Any ideas on this style number? Could it be a ship number or some sort of designation for a particular vessel? It is a nice tombak Adolf Bock Shwerin Berlin Badge. Sorry I did not have time for picks but if needed I will post some...Thanks...Cheers...Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

The number looks to short to be a feldpost number. I think it might be his dogtag number as KM ones were fairly basic. Would be worth checking on the Military ID's forum though.

      Jeff,
A theory that I have is that combat badges seen with hasty-type i.d.'s scratched on them -is due to the occasional "remove the badges" orders coming down when a secret movement of some sort is conducted.
A common name on a H.S.F. badge would, likely,be followed by a number simply because several men on a ship, especially a large ship, might have the same last name.
I have noticed that Fallschirmjaeger badges seem to often have these hasty-scratched names on the reverse. And,several times during the war,Fallschirmjaeger were known to have "remove the badges" type orders for secret moves(the Balkans-Greek Campaign comes to mind)
      Just an idea...
