    Blockadebrecher

This recently came to me from Sweden, the land of my forefathers...

It is tombak, and weighs 36.5g.
The catch has been replaced, but I feel quite sure it was done a long time ago.

We will certainly never know, but I can't help but think that this badge once adorned the blouse of a sailor in the Handelsmarine who earned every pfennig of his pay.

                      Looks like a replaced catch?

                        Hi Greg,

A nice worn original - plenty of character!

I agree, the catch repair does not look recent - can't say for sure if it's wartime though as it's relatively neat compared to the "field repairs" I'm used to (could have been "jeweller" repaired of course).

Good pics to study up on what an original should look like

                        Regards
                        Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

                            Mike,
Yes, the repair is rather neatly done compared to some that are seen.
I can never bring myself to use the phrase "wartime repair". The fact is, one can ever know for sure. We can only make our observations on how the repair looks in regard to the badge itself and any signs of "aging" that may or may not be evident.

A repair such as this would not have been very difficult at all for a person with a deft hand at electrical soldering.

                            G.
