Original zinc Steinhauer & L******252;ck badge with replace pin and catch. Original hinge also bumped up, but probably still there.

I think it could be original, just heavily worn or handled causing the eagle and feet to look squashed. The hinge looks ok, just moved, the catch is wrong I believe, maybe the pin is OK too, not sure on that but it is close to what I would see in a S and L.

If this is correct, this item was heavily handled, then it also explains the reason the hinge might have been moved and the catch replaced. Maybe.

All that said, I would take a pass also, but if it is real, this is clearly a worn badge.

Do we have any images on a good S and L on this forum, could not find one Robb, what did you find when you did your search?

It is an "o" on the back as in Steinhauer & L******252;ck"!
The "O" rune represents the number 4 = S&L Pr******228;sidialkanzlei code. But mind you, that did not serve as the link to S&L. It is a known S&L mark, wartime and post-war. In the case of this badge, wartime.

                      S-Boot

                      Hello,
As was said earlier these badges are good and thank you Frank for clearing up who made them.

In the 1970's there were a lot of these S-boot badges, at the time I was told by several dealers that a bunch of them were discovered in Germany around 1974 or so.

In the 1970's it was common to find these O hallmarked badges with a cardboard box, similar to the type of box that the French made KM badges came in. However, these boxes were void of any maker mark. I must admit when I bought one, the box was tossed. Probably why you don't see the boxes today. These badges were selling for $30 around 1977 or so. BTW, the finish on these badges wasn't much better then.

I had shown this before but in the original 1st edition of For Fuhrer and Fatherland, this pattern of S-boot was shown. When the book was revised a Schwerin example was substituted.

In the 1980's a fake of this badge with the O hallmark began to circulate.
                      Regards,
                      Jody

Here is an original O hallmarked S-boot in the Volume 1 of For Fuehrer and Fatherland (1st edition):

Jody your post is unclear. Is that the 1980s fake in the book, or the original?

                        Thanks
                        Ray

                          Hi Ray,
It is an original S-boot shown in the book. BTW, the book was published in 1976. I made a correction to my post.

I donĀ“t like the look of the badge on the polish site.
Looks like the ones that turned up during the 70s.
