Anyone see the Die struck Uboat on Detlev's update today. Never seen one like it.

Any opinions/comments on it?

Hi Spike have seen this type before, nice, original and rare . To my knowlegde i think Wietze has one on his site.

I think the jury is out. Do a search on "hollow u-boat" and you will find a lot of "opinions" and little fact. But here is one where Gordon Williamson chimed in, and he knows a little more than I do about u-boat badges.

Hi Flak thanks for the info > have to say that i quite like the look of the reverse on this one, normally i keep away from hollow backed examples. Maybe im wrong but i thought this type, without the prop had been confirmed. Yes- no anyone. Maybe extra imput is needed.Is Gorden around .

Nothing wrong with the Detlev badge. This type was issued during the war although this one looks mint, it is still OK. This is an example of one that was worn with 100% provenance, so these badges are good. There were several different makers, I do not know them all, but this particular design is good at least.

This one had to have been made prior to December 1943.
