    U Boat Badge Thoughts

    Hello,

Not to good with the KM stuff so I need a little help with this one. My girlfriends dad was given this by his uncle who was a vet in the War. Unfortunatly he says that he cleaned off all of the "TARNISH" which has now caused the piece to have no Gold gilt. To me this looks like a Juncker badge by the hinge. Also by the detail on the Swaz and deck gun it looks like it is a tombac piece.

If anyone can help me out and let me know what this is and an ammroximate value that would be great because this is destined for the e-stand.

    Thanks,
    Cam

Hi Cam nice original . Closer pics of the eagle would help, could well be a Deumur. Has the pin been repaired?.Looks like new solder at the top part.

            Pin Repair

            Hello,

MRG- No the pin has not been repaired. What that spot is, is where my girlfriends father tried to"Clean" the badge when he was a kid. It is just the way the picture looks. I will try to post some more pics of the eagle, but I am not to good with my Camera.

trident3- I checked in the pages before you enter the forum and it says that Schwerin never made the U-Boat badge with a cut out Swaz like this one. Also it is quite heavy. It is heavier than a Zinc IAB that I have.

Here is a pic of the underside of the pin. Hopefully you can see that it was not repaired.

            Thanks,
            Cam

Cam I think what they meant by Schwerin not having a cut out swastika is the ones with the mark 100 found under the pin. Schwerin made these with cut out swaz's. It looks like an unmarked Schwerin to me.

                Deumer

The main gun does not look correct to be a Deumer I think. Deumer attached. John

Cam this is a close run between deumer and schwerin. I agree with mrg (clear pics of the eagle).

Definately looks like a zinc badge to me, if it were the tombak version then it would have the appearence of polished brass.

The site article looks like a typo to me. the maker mark 100 is for Rudolf Wachtler & Lange not Schwerin. The Prasidialkanzlei or LDO number for Schwerin, assuming they had one is currently not known. The word Schwerin should go with the "Berlin 68" shown in the table of cut out badges

                      Eagle Picture

                      Hello All,

Here is a Pic of the eagle. Sorry once again for the poor quality but I took over 40 pics and this is the best one.

About the type of badge. This one just does not feel like zinc. It is heavier than most zinc badges I have and it has that metal feel to it.

                      Thanks again for the help,

                      Cam

Thanks for the help. What would one of these in this condition go for.

Hi Cam sorry to say i can not give you a definate answer on maker, as the pics are not clear enough. as for the price it is real hard to say. Here in England anywhere from 170 pounds upwards. Good conditions ones tend to be around 225-250.

                              -

Value? Depends on who you are asking?
Personally I wouldn´t pay EUR 10.-, but I guess there are other collectors who would pay perhaps EUR 200.- for it.
