    Thanks for pointing out the barrel tip to me. I took another look at this under magnification, and it appears that it was broken off prior to the application of finish. There is evidence of hand finishing/filing around this area, and the finish is consistent with the rest of the badge...as opposed to a touch up.

    Did this breakage & repair occur at the factory with frequency, or were you implying that this breakage frequently took place after issue?

    I look forward to seeing you at the SOS. I used to touch base with you at all of our Great Western shows, but the "climate" in California is probably the reason you chose to relocate in Arizona instead.

      On the examples where I found it, it was AFTER issue.

          Thanks for getting back to me on that question.

          Here is a poor quality scan illustrating why I asked the question. You can see the beveled area from filing, and the finish really does seem to match. At least someone along the line did a skillful job of touch up/repair.
