        Hi Steve,
It is classic AS in triangle hardware setup. Badge is good IMO.

            Steve,

I'm with Robert and Don on your 'find'. It's a shame that the 2nd Model Schwerin E-Boat Badge didn't hold it's finish as well as the AS.

Original badge. Pin, catch, hinge and hook all correspond to a classic AS.

Sent you a PM with more information on these badges. This one looks fine to me in all respects. John

                  I agree...a great looking badge!

The AS E-Boat and Minesweepers hold their finish because they are "primed" with a gold base that holds the finish better than the others. Sometimes they are mistakenly referred to as "tombak" because of the gold-colored underlay.

IMO, the AS 2nd pattern E-Boat is much nicer than the Schwerin!

                    Hey Lorenzo,

Right On with the AS! It's a shame with the second-E, as Schwerin made such nice Aux Cruisers and UBoat Badges, with the fire-gilting.... I guess the Second EBoat Badge was a mid to later war badge, such that the manufacturing quality was declining.

                      Dear Steve,

Great badge and only one thing which makes me look twice: it seems from the pics as if the lower half of the hull of the ship bears a more faded gold than the eagle/wreath. This should absolutely be the same gold color/finish throughout. If you scutinize the badge and can confirm that it is different on the hull, then the wreath/eagle might be a bit retouched. Probably it is just the picture, but I wanted to raise that possible concern.
                      Cheers, Frank

                          Steve,

Frank made a valid point. In your first images, I think the lighting was a bit intense, and threw the gold colors off. Your recent image is much better. The hull and wreath seem more of the same hue.
