Well IMo it's an original zinc Deumer but it was messed with a little. This badge suffered quite some zincrot, was cleaned and then repainted explaining the finish over the zincrot holes.
An original zinc Deumer, due to the condition, maybe best if you kept it since I do not think it would sell for much, if at all.
However, I have a question for the forum, is there a way for this badge to be salvaged at all--in other words, a way to remove the paint and take it down to the zinc base so that at least it looked better in such a way that the badge was not completely ruined. Right now, the paint job has destroyed this badge, so is there a method to gently get the paint off without pitting or affecting the zinc itself? I know once a badge has been repainted, and so many are, especially zinc Form 2 Patrol Boat badges for example, the badge has lost value, but if you were going to keep the badge, and wanted the new paint off, is it possible?
Clearly even if there was a way, there is a risk to the owner that his badge would be further ruined, but maybe worth the risk?
