    Rudolf Souval Blockade Runner Badge

    Hello to all,
I would appreciate it if someone could post pictures of a Souval Blockade Runner Badge for comparison purposes. Here is one that looks to be made of die-forged zinc. The diameter of the badge is 49.28mm, and it weighs 34.9 grams. On the obverse of the badge, there is a blob of material between the top of the eagle's left wing and the chain wreath. (Maybe the result of a damaged die.) All of the attachment hardware on the reverse is steel. (Pin, hinge, catch, and catch plate.) The 'RS' letters are in high relief, but the dots after the letters are quite indistinct when compared to the letters. Not sure what to make of this. I have only seen a few of these badges in the years that I have been collecting.
    Thanks & best regards! Tom

      Hi Tom,

This is the first Blockade runnder badge I have seen by Souval. It looks consistant with other RS marked badges. Circular plate and folded over hinge base is typical for RS badges. Detailing looks good from the pics. Sorry I can't offer more help, but looks good to me....

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

A rash of Blockade runners posted in the last couple of days. I have never seen one of these either, and anything Souval makes me a bit nervous. It would be nice to see another one for comparison.

          Hi Tom,

Sorry for the late reply but I first had to get home to take a look at my files.

Here is another RS BR that was sold on the e-stand by John (militarybuyer)a few years ago. Apart from the set-up (that isn't what you expect to see on an RS at all) this is a match to your badge.

Personally I like to think that these are original badges.

Hi, I do not know if yours is original but here are pics of a postwar Souval L/58
marked blockade runners badge I have.It must be a early repro as it does not have the classic Souval catch.Jay Parisi

                    Hello guys,

Thanks for all the comments on this badge so far. Thanks Philippe and Jay for posting some pictures. I really like the look of the badge that John T. sold on the estand. Very nice with the wide pin variation. The L/58 repro posted by Jay looks nicer and better made than an original, but the pierced out area behind the stack, and the portholes along the hull are not correct for Souval. If anyone else has an R.S. marked Blockade Runner Badge, please post some pictures and some measurements and the weight if possible.
                    Thanks & best regards! Tom

Well Tom, when all else fails for a huge variety of examples ... visit Herr Winkler's site. This time I came up blank as far as Souval goes ... but look at this one. Any ideas what this is? Juncker? I don't believe Juncker made Blockade Badges.

                          Hello Darrell,

Thanks for checking Kai's site for a Souval Blockade Runner Badge. I really appreciate that. Unfortunately, for whatever the reason, there do not seem to be many of these badges around. As far as that one you posted is concerned, I am not sure what the maker is. I guess it could be Juncker, judging from the barrel hinge and elongated catchplate. Since Juncker did make a few of the Kriegsmarine badges (Coastal Arty and Aux. Cruiser) I suppose it is possible that they made the Blockade Runner as well.
                          Best regards! Tom

Hi guys the award shown by Darrell has been attributed to Juncker in the past. Personally I am not that keen as they are very few. WhY?. As for the R.S as already has been said the reverse set up does look good but i think i will sit on the fence with these. Would i have one in my collection, due the the doubt encounted probabaly not, but this is just my opinion. All the bset
