Detsroyer badge

Dear all,

i have a nice original destroyer badge and have a question concerning the catch Schwerin Berlin used for making the brass version of the destroyer badge. Did they only use the catch version which is posted or are there other versions of the catch used for the brass version ?

Hi Christian,

Schwerin only used the one type of catch on their tombak badges - the flatwire "C" type catch illustrated on your genuine destroyer's badge. The flatwire catch can be found attached in two ways however. It can be a nice rounded "C" shape or the lower arm of the "C" (the part soldered to the badge) can be flat. Rob Hudspith has written an excellent article on the members only website discussing Schwerin construction methods.
