Juncker Coastal Artillery - Opinions!

Hi Everyone

A friend of mine has been offered this badge and asked my advice. I think its ok but would like your opinions.

After searching through the posts comparing this one to the accepted originals I have noticed that a lot of these badges has pockmarks - were these badges cast?

I think it is OK--looks like the gun mounting and back painted black? No patina. Maybe whole badge touched up a bit. Probably a second version tombak Juncker based on the the type of thin pin catch. Maybe first version, I forget if the thin or wide hook was first or not. Nice if we could see the pin in the down position.

Whichever version it is, its a good one. Thomas you have 4 boxed ones of these sitting in your storehouse. Did´nt you compare to those?

Skip: My friend needed to know fast so I could only compare with the pics of "my" Junckers and they don't seem that "pockmarked" (is that the correct word?).

Another thing is that I don't really understand why Juncker badges are so sought after, they all seem to have these tiny scratches and pockmarks - unlike that beautiful Deumer RO/RA you found for me I have become a Deumer fan

Hi Thomas,

yes, Junckers quiet often display small cracks and fissures. This probably resulted from the cooling process of the hot metal. Usually no 2 badges will be exactly the same. Thats one of the things I LIKE about Juncker badges. Deumer is, of course, also one of the best badge makers IMO.

Looking at the estand I would say that AG/RO of yours was a real bargin

Yep, other version of this tombak badge. Someone said they had problems with the thin hook and changed later to the wide hook.

Here is a picture of my Juncker CA badge for comparison.
I think the badge you showed pictures of is OK and the finish has not been touched up. I think it is only the image which makes the blue grey look black.
