    Painted Seas on KM Badges

    Guys,

I'm looking at a possible purchase of a Destroyer badge made by JFS. Comparing it to other JFS badges on this site and others it looks the real thing. It does however have the sea painted/coloured black under the bow waves. Now I have seen this done on other Destroyer badges by other makers, but not on a JFS example.
Was this painting/colouring a personal preference of the badge holder, or was it done by the makers?

Your advice as always guys is appreciated.

Hi Mark. See below my JFS. Do you mean "Black" where I have indicated?

      Darrell,

Thats correct, the area you have indicated is painted black. Not all the paint remains and there is none on any of the bow waves. Two of the oak leaves have a very small bit of black on the tips of their leaves.

      Cheers,

      Mark

Can't recall any waves being black on these, but if you have some pictures I can post them for you

          Darrell,

The photos are on a dealers site, so it would not be prudent to post them here.

          Cheers,

            Mark,

Is this the badge you are referring to, from Jamie Cross' site? As long as we are posting the badge for discussion, I see no problem posting. If a Moderator sees it differently...........

Hi mark to my knowledge some KM manufactures used a matt black undercoat before adding the top coat. What you see could simply be down to wear with the undecoat begining to break through (have too say thou its hard to tell from the pics if this is the case) All the best

                  Hi Mark,

Over the years, I have observed many KM badges on the forementioned site. On more than one occasion, I noticed exactly what you have keenly spotted.... painted waves. I do not recall seeing this 'trait' on like badges, on other sites.

I'm not real comfortable with paint .

I´m not comftable with painted waves but some makers chemically blackened them and thats ok IMO.
Although the badge shown above is unmistakably original, and in a very good condition, I would not be to happy with those waves.
