Hi guys,
A fellow collector sent me pics this morning of a clasp, thought it would be a good heads up. A nicely made cast fake of a Large Font AGMuK clasp (Type 1.1.1. in the CCC book). At first glance a decent copy, with some good obverse and reverse detailing. And even the pin looks good, which is interesting for cast fakes as they are almost always incorrect. This one here looks nice. But notice the smaller backplate, a classic red flag of a cast fake clasp as the crimps were already pushed down when the cast was made, so the only way to fit in the backplate was to make it smaller than normal.
Also notice the catch appears to be glued on, its not crimped in like we normally see on originals.
All in all a decently made fake to be on the look out for.
Tom
