This is my 1st German award, I always liked panzer related items. From what I understand, in bronze this would be for armored infantry or assault gun crews, is that correct?

Welcome to the WAF forum and also welcome to the PAB collectors club! You certainly picked a beauty for your first one, and very nice that it is original as there are good fakes out there and alot of us had the experience of their first badge being a fake. Nice original Adolf Scholze in nicely preserved condition with most of its bronze finish remaining. Here is one of mine for comparision.
Looking forward to seeing more of your pick ups in the future, I suspect this won't be your last PAB.
