    Juncker GAB variations

    Hi Guys,

Here is the long over due post on the Juncker variations of the GAB. I have been looking for original orders for badges to see what Juncker offered finish and polishing wise. Sadly I was not able to find any....If anyone has picture of an original order list that would be very much appreciated.

Recently I received two Juncker GAB in comparable condition. Their small difference with the other known types raised my interest.

One Juncker has a pressure ''flaw'' on the back, I later found one with a similar flaw. Next to the ''flaw'' these badges appear very black below the chrome finish and their catches are slightly different than the other variants. Imo these go towards later production.
These differences are very small and not enough to make them a new variant. But the small differences show variety in production.
Sadly I do not own Cupal round base plate or the last hinge variant Tom recently added(see pic). But nevertheless a good line up with most of the variety shown.
If anyone has interesting variations to add please feel free to share them.

    Regards, Job

    Hi Job,

Very nice lineup of Juncker GAB production throughout the war. Interesting the one with the depression on the reverse (pressure flaw as you say), I haven't seen another like it. Can you please post the other one you have seen like this, I am curious to see if it is in the exact same location as the one you show.

Here is my later solid variant, as you say its probably the last of the production run I suspect based on the cheaper, more common rectangular hinge found on other badges so possibly from a common supplier after their typical Juncker custom cut hinges ran out.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Here are two other Junckers I had one file with interesting hardware setups. However, in both cases I suspect they are replacements but would love to hear everyones opinion on that.

This first one it looks like you can see the original solder for the original hinge at the top left and this new hinge doesn't cover that old solder entirely.

Here is the other one. Again I suspect a replacement, the hinge appears to be the cheaply made crappy hinges we sometimes fine on postwar Souval fakes. Very thin metal, loosely bent into shape and doesn't have the same finish as the rest of the badge; all red flags for a replacement here IMO.

          Hi Tom,

Thank you for the additions, greatly appreciated. Imo they both stand a chance, sometimes the solder looks very sloppy. The patina and color seem to match the finish of the badge. The one with resoldered look to the hinge seems to have the matching patina as well. Will have a good look, they could have changed the whole setup as well. There are some very good repairs out there.

I was searching on the Internet yesterday and manged to find a setup I had not seen before. It has the later period sheet hinge like your solid one, but has more of a rectangular catch plate.
The other piece with flaw comes from Giel his site. Here are the pictures.

Great collection of juncker gab’s job.
Despite the many interesting zinc variants, my favourite remains the cupal 😀
