H&CL GOLD CCC

Indeed a bronze clasp...
I saw this one on eBxx, and remembered that I had seen it somewhere before... Quite characteristic corrosion damage to it - and lo and behold! There it was, pictured in my archives...! However, at the time I previously saw it on the Net, it was a bronze grade clasp! So, it is a genuine, rare H&CL CCC, but one that has been refinished - fairly recently... Sad, truly sad...!
Best Regards,

I advised Marvin to buy that one as it is a super rare clasp. I mentioned that the finish needs some in hand check. But wouldn´t you guys rather say it always has been a bronze grade? If you look at the reverse pics, the finish remained the same, it has obviously not been refinished. Just my take on it. If it was only refinished on the obverse (is that the same badge's obverse shown by Mikael?), the difefrence between obverse refinishing and original reverse finish should be obvious.Cheers, Frank

Refinished obverse, or not...
Marvin,
As you are the new owner of this clasp, I hope you don't mind that I show the pictures that I received from the former owner pre-auction close...?
First and foremost, regarding the pics that I posted yesterday: yes, the archived obverse pics of the bronze grade clasp are of the same H&CL clasp as the one pictured in the archived close-ups.
This clasp was recently sold as a gold clasp, and the recent close-ups that I received indicated a refinished version of exactly the same bronze clasp shown above, as the corrosion pattern to the reverse was identical. I may be wrong, but also when comparing the obverse pics, the part of the rays damaged by (what looks like) white zinc-plague corrosion to the archive-pics "bronze version" shows a thin impression of something beneath the gold finish to the recent "gold version" of the clasp.
Also, in the recent close-ups that I received, the finish looks very much like gold wash to me - at least in the pictures from the seller (shown below).
So, I don't know what to think... But anyhow, it is a rare and much sought for clasp!!
Best,
