PAB in silver by Petz & Lorenz marked L/18 + differences to the Shickle PAB

Ending off this week with something I am pretty excited about. This badge has been discussed on the forum before but as it just joined my collection here it is again.

In the next post I will expand ons some differences between this badge as the Otto Schickle PAB which were both made from the BH Mayer design.

The badge is repaired but the catch is stamped with the L/18 mark of BH Mayer.

The P&L and O. Schickle badges looks almost identical if one gives them a quick glance. But these are the differences I could find.

Firstly, the P&L badge is of thicker metal and a few grams heavier that the Schickle badge.

The Shickle badge also seems to have the Mayer flaws. A mark on the left wing of the eagle as well as a not fully closed oak leaf on the right just touching the eagle.

The back shows more clear differences with the needle assembly being attached higher up on the eagle for P&L.

The P&L needle is also attached with bent outward flaps of metal where the Shickle badge is directly soldered on.

What other differences have you noticed?

As this didn’t get much love the first time around thought I’d bump it and try again

You are 100% correct and once you know these differences you can easily pick out the P&L's from the Schickles only looking at the obverse

          Nice pieces side by side
          Kind regards,

            Hi Kyrptos,

Somehow missed this thread the first time around. Very nice detective work here, with some great comparison photos. These minor differences are what set these two makers apart, which you can see in the wartime P&L catalog.

            Keep up the great work.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

              Hey thanks everyone!

It was amazing that I found the P/L in the same week that the Schickle found its home here. So I went looking for the differences as even in hand at first glance they look extremely similar.

Finding an L/18 stamped P/L made me jump on it even though it has a repair.
