    Sharpshooters Award

This rare award is hard to find any information about it. Just wondered if anybody knows anything about it. Is it military? Anyway I really like it, like the seller says, "Not one you see everyday!" That's for sure can't find it at all.

Here you have a Link from similar Medals. They where given to Members from a Schutzenverein or Shooting Organization. Looks like a nice one with the raising Swastica on top.

        Stephan,

That's correct, this award comes from an NS-period shooting club. These organizations were prevalent throughout Germany for hundreds of years and have a colorful and interesting history.

The one that you're interested in is not easy to find as you'll see if you become interested in these awards in the future. Finding those marked with swastikas are far and few between. In my opinion this one is an original and fairly priced at around $150.

Many of these clubs chose not to use the national insignia to distinguish their medals and awards, though, they are definitely found in abundance in period catalogs from award manufacturers of the years 1933-1945. They're just more difficult to find and so they're worth more to collectors.

This one is also unusual due to the fact that it's engraved for a ten-year period. Normally they are engraved for a one-year period of time when that individual was the champion marksman. Often they will have the designated shooter's name or initials on them, too. At times more information can be found on the medal, such as the club name, region or specific event.

There are literally hundreds of designs to these shooting awards, ranging from quite simple to very elaborate. The earliest examples that I've seen date back to the mid 1700's. The less rare types are usually priced modestly at around $50 and another good thing about collecting them is that they're mostly not reproduced by the frauds, unlike other TR awards and medals.

        Good luck and best regards!

        Bill
