    Wegerhoff eye candy

    Hi guys,

Finally I was able to find the very elusive early GWL IAB in tombak. I think we have one other bronze grade in the database which is in better condition but when looking at this one it clearly saw some more action. At first I thought I was looking at a worn down silver grade but after inspecting it in detail I'm pretty sure I have a bronze grade here as well. The bright bronze finish is clearly visible in deep parts between the oaks, this finish was covered with dirt and scratches and the typical green "verdis gris" at some points.

The reverse looks slightly more "silverish" but afer looking at it I realised I was looking at plain brass without finish! I personally think the obverse was the only part that was ever finished on this badge, or finished differently... a bit in line with the early S&L examples...

    Hope you like it!

      Hi Giel,

Gorgeous GWL in really nice condition. Nice patina and excellent cutout to the swastika. Also perfectly intact reverse hardware, a really nice pick up.

Many GWL CCCs have black finish only on the front of the backplate, with the back of the plate left bare metal, so there is precedent with this firm only finishing one side of some of their products.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
